Last night, the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy distributed holiday gifts to its Scholar Athletes and their families. The local office of law firm Mintz has supported the gift drive since 2014, contributing nearly $25,000 in holiday gifts since the event began. This year, over 100 Scholar Athletes created wish lists from which they each received one gift. Former Nationals player Ryan Zimmerman and Screech stopped by to hand out gifts and participate in fun, holiday-themed activities including an indoor “snowball” fight. This was the first time that Scholar Athletes were able to celebrate the holiday season in-person in three years, as the gift drive has been a drive-through event due to COVID.
The Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy provides support and year-round programming, imparting a lasting impact on the lives of school-age children living in Ward 7 and 8.
